2. ¿Cómo entraste en el deporte hípico?

2. How did you get into the sport of horse racing?

Mi abuelo me llevó a Hollywood Park cuando era muy joven. Cuando estaba en bachillerato fui a Del Mar en el verano y a Caliente el resto del año. Yo sabía desde joven dedicar mi vida a las carreras.

My grandfather took me to Hollywood Park when I was very young. When I was in High School I would go to Del Mar in the summer and Caliente the rest of the year. I knew very early on I wanted to spend my life at the races.

3. ¿Dónde y cuándo narraste tu primera carrera?

3. Where and when did you call your first race?

Narré mi primera carrera en Caliente en Tijuana México en 1978 aproximadamente

Called my first race at Caliente in Tijuana Mex in approx. 1978.

4. ¿Quién fue la persona que tuvo más influencia en tu carrera?

4. Who was the most influential person in your career?

La icónica voz de Hollywood Park, Del Mar y Sunland Park, el gran Harry Henson. Él no sólo me ayudo a creer en mi sueño, él me dio un lugar para practicar y aprender. Después escuchó mis grabaciones y me dio importantes consejos.

By far the iconic voice of Hollywood Park, Del Mar and Sunland Park the great Harry Henson. He not only helped me believe in my dream. He facilitated a place for me to practice and learn. Then listened to my early tapes and offered valuable advice.

5. ¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de narrar carreras de caballos y que es lo más difícil?

5. What do you enjoy most about calling a race and what is the most difficult?

A medida que pasa el tiempo, la memorización ha sido lo más difícil. Yo disfruto compartiendo este gran deporte como los fanáticos con los cuales me entiendo y me emociono en las descripciones como lo hacen ellos.

As I've gotten older, memorization of the fields has been most difficult. I enjoy sharing our great sport to race fans just like me. Hopefully having them understand and become just as excited as I am about what I'm describing.

6. ¿Cuál ha sido tu caballo preferido en una carrera que tú hayas narrado, así como la mejor carrera narrada por ti?

6. Who is your favorite horse you have called and the best race you have called?

Mi caballo favorito fue Hal’s Hope cuya victoria en el Florida Derby tuve el privilegio de narrar. No me corresponde a mí decir cuál es mi mejor carrera narrada, se lo dejo al público hípico.  

My favorite horse was Hal's Hope who won the 1st Florida Derby I was privileged to call. It's not for me to say what my BEST race call is. I leave that to the racing public

7. ¿Si pudieras cambiar algo del hipismo, que sería?

7. If there is anything you could change about horse racing, what would it be?

Reglas uniformes en toda la jurisdicción de los Estados Unidos. HISA, el cual yo creo debe estar en todas las pistas haciendo su trabajo.

Uniform rules in every U.S. jurisdiction. HISA, which I believe in, might be on the right track to doing that.

8. ¿Algo que sorprende a la gente sobre ti?

8. What is something that would surprise people about you?

Mi gran pasión por los musicales de Broadway.

My great love for Broadway Musicals.

9. ¿Tu hobby, deporte, comida, lugar, película, música, bebida, libro y profesor preferidos?

9. What is your favorite:  hobby, sport, food, place, movie, music, drink, book and teacher?

Hobbies: musicales, deportes: las carreras de caballos, comida: Tacos en la calle, Lugar: Oaklawn Park, Película: Moonstruck, Música: Rock de la época de los 70, Bebida: Margarita, Libro: Escogiendo Ganadores de Andrew Beyer y su profesor preferido Harry Henson.

Por favor disfruten nuestro gran deporte. Hemos tenido algunas dificultades, pero estamos en el camino correcto para llegar a sentirnos de nuevo orgullosos de él. Un lugar de juego de nivel para apostadores y fanáticos.   

Please rejoice in our great sport. We've had some hiccups but our sport is on the right track to once again becoming one that we can be very proud of. A level playing field for every stakeholder and fan.
